Asog is a term used in the Philippines to refer to a person who is assigned male at birth but identifies and behaves as a woman.
Asog is also known as bayok, bayog, or bayoc, among other names. Asog are considered to be a third gender in the traditional Filipino culture, and they often take on roles as shamans, healers, or mediums.
Asog are different from bakla, who are also male-to-female transgender people, but are more influenced by the Western concept of homosexuality.
