Asperger syndrome is a formerly-used subtype of autism. It used to be used to describe autistic people who had no speech delays and/or average or above-average intelligence.[1][2] However, the difference between the conditions was unclear, so they were merged into the "autism spectrum disorder" label.
The condition was named for Hans Asperger, a Nazi collaborator.[3][4] The use of his name has fallen out of favor.
