The National University Hospital (NUH) Medical Centre was officially opened on Monday morning, 21 April 2014 and aimed to offer patients greater convenience when seeking treatment.
The 19-storey centre caters mainly to patients undergoing outpatient procedures. Located just above Kent Ridge MRT station, it houses facilities like specialist outpatient clinics and day surgery operating theatres.
NUH chief executive officer adjunct Associate Professor Joe Sim said a key consideration in the centre's design was to "provide one-stop care wherever possible". Previously, a patient would have had to walk from building to building to have all the necessary tests and consultations done. "With our new one-stop centre, consultation, treatment, counselling and imaging services are all done under one roof," said A/Prof Sim.
The centre had been in operation since July 2013 and had seen more than 120,000 patients by April 2014.
