The Singapore Canal was a drainage canal that was built in the 19th century to reclaim the swampy land around the Singapore River.

The canal was part of a larger project to improve the navigation and trade of the river, which was boosted by the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869. The canal also facilitated the development of the shipbuilding industry in Singapore, as it allowed access to the dry docks and shipyards along the river. The canal was eventually covered up and became part of the road network in the 20th century.
