The gallery exhibits Singaporean and Southeast Asian art, as well as a diverse selection of other Asian artists. It are also one of Singapore’s most active art spaces, changing its shows with alarming regularity to give a wide spectrum of artists a chance to exhibit. Since 2001, it has organized over 300 art exhibitions in Singapore for artists, sculptors, ceramists and photographers from Southeast Asia and beyond, and participated actively in several local and international art fairs. Specialising in emerging artists, it is pleased to have several of its featured artists win major awards, be collected by major museums and institutions around Asia, and graduate to the auction market in Sotheby's and Christie's. It is experienced in providing event management services to both artists and clients alike, and can lend its organisational expertise in display, publicity and sales for events and exhibitions not just within its own gallery, but to various external venues. It offers art consultancy and valuation to both private and institutional clients, and project management for commissioned projects and art acquisitions.

Utterly Art was first established in 2001 by plant molecular biologist-turned-gallerist Dr Pwee Keng Hock and his business partner Kenneth Tan at 208A South Bridge Road, on level 2 (directly above Xpose Bar), Singapore 058757. This location was the venue for the very first event of IndigNation, Singapore's historic, inaugural, government-approved gay pride month celebration in August 2005. The maiden item was an exhibition of paintings by artist Martin Loh entitled Cerita Budak-Budak, meaning 'children's stories' in Peranakan Malay. The event was followed up with Contra/Diction - A Night with Gay Poets held on 4 August 2005, Singapore's first public gay poetry reading session which was attended by over 70 people, with standing room only. The popular Oogachaga-Looking Glass gay and lesbian relationship seminars were also conducted here.

In the early 2010s, Utterly Art moved further down the street to level 2, 229A South Bridge Road (above Teck Soon Medical Hall, opposite the Sri Mariamman Temple, Pagoda Street entrance), Singapore 058778; Tel: 6226 2605 Fax: 6226 2645208. At this location, it was open from Mondays to Saturdays from 11:30am to 8pm and on Sundays from 12 noon to 5:30pm. It closed on public holidays but was open on Christmas and New Year's Eve till 5:30pm.
